ABOUT THE IRISH WILDLIFE TRUST

The Irish Wildlife Trust is a non-government organisation and charity founded in 1979. They are a nationwide organisation with a strong membership base and a network of volunteers and branches throughout Ireland.

Vision: The Irish Wildlife Trust’s vision is an Ireland where wild nature thrives, and society enjoys the benefits of coexisting with diverse, functioning ecosystems.

Mission: The Irish Wildlife Trust’s mission is to protect and restore biodiversity in Ireland by motivating and supporting people to take action for nature. We achieve this through assertive advocacy, inspirational rewilding, and building empowered communities for nature. The Irish Wildlife Trust delivers free nature events across Ireland in order to help people connect with nature and increase ecological literacy. They produce an award winning magazine, Irish Wildlife, as well as a newsletter and webinar series. They advocate for nature though engaging in public consultations, campaigning and direct lobbying. They run a small network of reserves managed exclusively for nature.

Ireland is in the midst of an ecological catastrophe. Habitats including forests, rivers, wetlands and marine environments have been profoundly reshaped, resulting in many native species facing local extinction. This presents a major challenge for policymakers, wildlife advocates and researchers.
