Research Interests

I am an environmental historian with a background in biology and marine ecology. I finished my PhD on the history of early modern Portuguese whaling in the south Atlantic in 2020. My primary research interest focus on the entangled relationship between humans and marine animals, through the study of their exploitation, economic, cultural, and ecological importance. I place the animals at the centre of my research assuming non-human being as agents with a significant role in the course of history. I am currently a board member and the Regional Representative of Portugal at the ESEH - European Society for Environmental History, and I am also actively engaged in science communication actions.
