As part of the two day 'Caring Communities in Japan and Ireland" Seminar & Community Engagement across Cultures for realising Ageing in Place, academics and community advocates had the pleasure of a one day visit to Carnew Community Centre in County Wicklow, organised by Dr Catherine Elliott O'Dare and Ms Anne Kavanagh (Centre Manager) , together with Dr Nao Kodate and 千葉大学 Chiba University Japan and WaWaWa-no-kai (Higashi Chiba) Japan and UCD School of Social Policy, Social Work and Social Justice. The event was supported by Japan Society for the Promotion of Science and UCD Geary Institute for Public Policy. Carnew Community Care Centre (day center and independent living with 28 residences) embodies community spirit and effort to support older people to age well in their own community.
