Government of Ireland International Education Scholarships

Government of Ireland International Education Scholarships are awarded to high calibre students from non-EEA countries to study in Ireland at postgraduate level for a period of one year. The programme is funded by the Government of Ireland in partnership with Irish higher education institutions (HEIs) and managed by the Higher Education Authority (HEA). Under the initiative, 60 scholarships are awarded each year for one year of full-time postgraduate study.

Scholarships provide a full tuition fee waiver and a €10,000 annual stipend to support living costs.  

Scholarship Eligibility 

The scholarship programme has overarching eligibility criteria which are listed here.

Each Higher Education Institution also has its own individual eligibility criteria. For GOI-IES applicants to Trinity College Dublin, the following eligibility criteria applies in addition to the scholarship programme criteria:

  • Applicants must have a course offer for a one-year, full-time taught Master’s programme (excluding the MBA) at Trinity College Dublin for academic year 2026/27. Preference will be given to applicants with unconditional offers.
  • Applicants have a domicile of origin in a World Bank classified Low or Lower-Middle Income Country. Please see here for a list of eligible countries.
  • Applicants must be considered Non-EU students with a Non-EU tuition fee status.

Application Process 

Applicants should first ensure they meet the full eligibility criteria listed above and on the scholarship programme webpage.

Step 1: Eligible applicants should apply for their desired course at Trinity College Dublin. Please note that different courses have different admissions criteria. All information on how to apply to Trinity and an extensive directory of courses can be found here.

There is an application fee of €55 to submit a course application to Trinity College Dublin. Unfortunately, this fee cannot be waived under any circumstance.

Step 2: Scholarship applications can then be made to the HEA through the scholarship webpage here.

29 January 2026 – Government of Ireland International Education Scholarship applications open

12 March 2026 - Government of Ireland International Education Scholarship applications close

Early June 2026 - Scholarship awards offered to successful applicants
