Should social media be banned for under 16s? Professor Richard Layte from the Department of Sociology joined a panel discussion on The Tonight Show on Tuesday, May 13 to discuss the possibility that Ireland might adopt something like Australia’s planned ban on social media for adolescents. Noting data suggesting the significant impact that smartphone exposure has impacted young people’s mental health Professor Layte said “we should be looking toward restricting access to smartphones to young teens particularly”.
