Michael Ward

1674 – 1678 (c.1643-81)

Michael WardMichael Ward was born in Shropshire in 1643, but was educated at Trinity College.1  He was a careerist and had a meteoric rise to high office. He was elected to Fellowship at nineteen, to Professor of Divinity and Dean of Lismore at twenty-seven; he was the youngest ever Provost when appointed at thirty-one; less than four years later he was elevated to the see of Ossory and after being appointed Bishop of Derry died at age thirty eight.
