The Constitutional Governance and Social Change group is excited to welcome Professor Nicholas Barber of Trinity College, Oxford for a seminar on his recent book The Principles of Constitutionalism(Oxford University Press 2018).

This book picks up from Professor Barber’s previous book on The Constitutional State (Oxford University Press 2008) that examined the nature of the state and the rules that constitute it. In this book, Professor Barber takes a step back and examines the content of the principles that should structure the state, institutions and constitutional relationships in ways that facilitate the state’s flourishing. Professor Adrian Vermeule has reviewed the book as ‘the best exposition of the principles of (liberal) constitutionalism in recent memory.’
