Seminar: Artificial Intelligence and Trademark Law: Challenges and Perspectives.

Wednesday 1 June 2022, 17:15pm - 18:45pm.
Location: TRiSS Seminar Room.

Join us for an open discussion on the role of artificial intelligence in the domain of trademark law with Prof Rafael Garcia Pérez.

Prof Rafael Garcia Pérez is currently at Trinity College as a Visiting Researcher at the School of Law. He is a professor (“Profesor Titular”) of Commercial Law at the University of A Coruña (Spain). His areas of research are Intellectual Property Law and Unfair Competition Law. He has written four books (in Spanish): The expansion of the right conferred by the trade mark (Marcial Pons, 2021); European Union Trade Mark Law: The case law of the Court of Justice (Wolters Kluwer, 2019); Unfair Competition Law (Thomson Aranzadi, 2008); and Free movement of goods and unfair competition in the EC (Marcial Pons, 2005).

Rafael is currently the leader of a research project on “Artificial Intelligence and Trade Mark Law” funded by the Spanish Government. He has published extensively in this area by analysing issues such as automated decision-making in Australia; a computerised assessment of the likelihood of confusion; and the function of artificial intelligence in the trademark granting procedure. His seminar will touch upon all these issues and will provide an opportunity for students and other researchers to discuss them. Prof. Giuseppe Mazziotti (TCD, School of Law) will act as a discussant.
