Prior to joining Trinity College in 2000, Mary worked in Rome as an English language instructor before moving into tourism as Destination Manager for a well-known Irish tour operator.

Mary holds a degree in Social Sciences from the OU, a single honours degree in Italian from the University of London (Royal Holloway) and an MPhil. in Art History (Dubl.).
