2025 Committee

Each year, a new Student Economic Review committee is appointed to lead the publication and its associated events. Committee members are selected from Junior Sophister Economics students through an application process run by academic staff at the start of Michaelmas Term.

Below, you'll find welcome messages from this year's General Manager and Editor, along with contact details for the full SER 2025 team.

General Manager Welcome

I am delighted to welcome you to the 39th edition of the Student Economic Review, one of the oldest undergraduate journals in the world! Over the past 38 years this journal has established a legacy of showcasing the exceptional talent of Economics students at Trinity. Together with the committee, I am committed to continuing this legacy into its 39th year.

Over its lifetime the Review has grown to extend beyond the journal, encompassing workshops, speaker events and the much anticipated debates.

I encourage students to submit essays to the review, as it offers the unique opportunity to have your work published in a renowned journal, with many of the past contributors having gone on to become leaders in their respective fields. Additionally, students are given the freedom to explore their own areas of interests in Economics.

Over its lifetime the Review has grown to extend beyond the journal, encompassing workshops, speaker events and the much anticipated debates. This year, we have exciting debates lined up with Cambridge and Yale, organised in collaboration with the Hist and the Phil. I would highly recommend students to attend as many of these events as possible, details of which will be posted on our social media!

Best wishes,

Aoife O'Connor

Editor Welcome

I am delighted to welcome you to the 39th edition of the Student Economic Review. We are continuing a longstanding Trinity tradition that started with the journal’s founding in 1987, making it perhaps the oldest undergraduate publication in the field of Economics. Over the course of its existence it has helped numerous ambitious and talented students to make their first steps into the world of academia, policymaking, and business, by featuring their writing in such a renowned publication.

Our role as the committee is to provide an environment where their ideas can take root and grow.

The world today is rich with themes of great economic importance, from the resurgence of protectionism at the intersection of economics and politics to the demographic and technological changes set to transform how we think about the economy and the nature of work. Curious individuals with strong economic knowledge are needed to help us understand this world and shape the policy for the future. This journal allows them to develop the skills and curiosity necessary to begin that journey.

Our role as the committee is to provide an environment where their ideas can take root and grow. We encourage contributions that need space beyond the constraints of university assignments, as well as original ideas that need a place to shine. Along with my fellow editors, Theodora Clare and Clodagh Gaffney, I am committed to ensuring that the submissions that showcase deep analysis, technical knowledge, original ideas, and meaningful contribution to the economic discourse, will receive the recognition they deserve.

Economics, however, is not confined to research alone. The Review also serves as a forum for workshops, debates, and other events that allow students to broaden their economic perspectives and think about issues not covered by the curriculum. Our committee this year is committed to achieving that goal, and I wholeheartedly invite you all to engage with us and participate in the 2025 edition of the Student Economic Review.
