PhD in Economics: Requirements 

Applicants should normally hold a Master’s degree in Economics (or a closely related discipline) with strong training in economic theory and quantitative methods. 

A research proposal must be submitted with your application. Preference is given to students whose proposed topic aligns with the research interests of a faculty member. View staff research interests. 

Applicants whose first language is not English and who have not been educated through English must provide evidence of English language proficiency. See Trinity’s Graduate Studies website for details. 

Please note: The PhD is a full-time programme. Part-time applications will only be considered in exceptional cases where an applicant can demonstrate that their work is directly relevant to their proposed research, and that they can be physically present at Trinity for extended blocks of time during the programme.

MLitt in Economics: Requirements

Applicants should hold at least a 2.1 honours undergraduate degree in Economics. In some cases, applicants may be asked to complete additional undergraduate coursework to meet the required standard. As with the PhD, applicants must submit a research proposal and show interest in a topic aligned with staff expertise.
