MSc in Economic Policy

The MSc in Economic Policy is a two-year, part-time postgraduate programme designed for professionals who do not necessarily have a background in economics, but who want to build the skills needed to engage confidently with economic research and policy analysis. Delivered jointly by the Department of Economics at Trinity College Dublin and the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI), the course equips students to understand, interpret and contribute to evidence-based policymaking in an Irish and international context.

Course Overview

This programme is specifically designed for professionals working in or alongside the public sector who may not have a formal background in economics. It provides a solid grounding in key economic principles, quantitative methods, and real-world policy application.

Students benefit from access to leading researchers, small-group teaching, and practical assessments that emphasise evidence-based decision-making in areas such as taxation, housing and climate policy.

Lectures are delivered on Fridays to accommodate working professionals.

A Unique Collaboration

This programme is jointly delivered by:

  • The Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) – Ireland’s leading independent think tank on economic and social policy.
