The prestigious Grattan Scholars programme was established in 2012 by the School of Social Sciences and Philosophy to support outstanding PhD students and to promote high-quality research and teaching in the social sciences at Trinity.
Named in honour of Emeritus Professor John O’Hagan, the programme recognises his exceptional contribution to the teaching of economics and his long-standing commitment to student development. The scholarships were made possible through the generous support of a group of Economics alumni, in tribute to Professor O’Hagan’s legacy.
Grattan Scholars are selected not only for their academic excellence, but also for their commitment to teaching and their ambition to contribute to social and economic progress through research and education. As part of their scholarship, they play a vital role in delivering high-quality and engaging teaching, enriching the learning experience of our undergraduate students.
Since its launch, 13 John O’Hagan Grattan Scholarships have been awarded to PhD students in the Department of Economics, thanks to the continued support of Trinity’s alumni and friends. The programme continues to serve as a catalyst for attracting and inspiring the next generation of academic leaders.
