Prof Carol Newman Chairs National Economic Dialogue 2025On Monday 16th June, the National Economic Dialogue took place at Dublin Castle. Prof Carol Newman chaired the event, with Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe and Minister for Public Expenditure Jack Chambers as hosts.

Prof Semil Gulesci Co-organised Workshop in Queen's University BelfastThe workshop took place from 12-13 June and was co-organised by Queen's Business School and the Irish Economic Association Network for Irish-Based Development Economists (NIDE). The workshop was on Cultural Transmission and Persistence.

Passing of Professor Dermot McAleese
The Department is very saddened to note the passing of Professor Dermot McAleese, former Whately Professor of Political Economy at Trinity (1979–2004). As a leading economist, he made an immense contribution to TCD Economics and College more generally. Our thoughts are with his family & friends. May he rest in peace.
