Luke Coffey
BBS Graduate 2014

I graduated in the class of 2014 and have spent the past 18 months working on developing a health and wellness company. I started the business in my third year of college with my partner who also studied business at Trinity. For me, one of the best things about Trinity is its centrally located campus and the feeling that you are studying in the heart of the city. The campus has an inviting atmosphere, inspires learning and is great during the warmer months. I studied BESS, finishing with a BBS degree. The broad curriculum and flexibility of the BESS course allowed me to pick and choose modules which I felt would aid my entrepreneurial endeavours, these included Innovation, Marketing and my favourite subject New Product Development. After finishing 4th year I participated in Launchbox, Trinity’s student incubator. It was a brilliant experience and one of the main reasons I pursed my own business after college. I think from a student entrepreneurial standpoint, Trinity, and in particular Trinity Business School, is a place of amazing opportunity, aided in no small part by its forward looking initiatives like Launchbox.

Iseult Ward
BBS Graduate 2013 and Business Student of the Year Award Winner

I loved studying the various subjects and Business was my favourite module in first year, which was why I knew I'd continue specializing in it for the next three years. What I found interesting about my time as a business student was that when I initially applied for the course, I thought I would pursue work in investment banking or sales and trading. This quickly changed after reading an article on social business models and studying the concept of sustainability in my marketing elective. This totally changed my direction, leading me to found FoodCloud – a service that matches businesses with surplus food to the needs of their local community organisations – diverting the tonnes of good food being dumped while helping those most in need in our communities.

I was able to shape my final year business course to keep it relevant to my new 'business', receiving great support from lecturers, enjoying the content and encouraging me to do very well.

Course Structure

This stimulating programme is designed to give you a world-class education and also to help you attain the competencies desired by employers. The key pillars of the BBS programme are a focus on innovation and entrepreneurship, and relevant real-life experience which will open up doors to the fascinating world of business.

  • Start Date: September 2017
  • Duration: 4 years
  • Features: Focus on Innovation and Entrepreneurship and Experiential Learning

Year 1: Junior Freshman

In your first year, you will learn about the history and evolution of business, organisation and management, in order to establish and reinforce the principle that the pursuit of business is embedded in - and a central driver of - our complex global economy. Furthermore, you will start your self-development journey with the key quantitative and qualitative skills required for business in the 21st Century.

In addition, to the four mandatory Business modules you will choose two modules from the list below. Students wishing to spend all or part of their third year studying abroad in a non-English speaking country should take a language module during their Freshman years. Extra module list:

    • FR1040                  Language – French
    • GR1004                 Language – German

You will benefit from the full resources of a globally networked institution. By taking a significant number of credits from other disciplines – from Law and Linguistics, to Geology or Psychology – you will have the unique opportunity to see how your thinking interacts with and is influenced by others, cultivating new insights that can only come through such interdisciplinarity.

Year 3: Junior Sophister

While building on your portfolio of skills and knowledge, you are awarded credit for experience that transforms your learning – whether through a semester or year abroad at one of our partner institutions, an internship in a firm, start-up, or voluntary organisation, or a leadership role in one of Trinity’s many business student societies. This experiential learning is highly valued by employers and is a unique opportunity for students to develop business skills.

Year 4: Senior Sophister

In your Senior Sophister year, you will focus on at least one area of business expertise: studying your chosen subject in depth, taking advanced modules in the subject and undertaking research guided by one of our faculty or industry experts. Your work acts as a ticket of entry into your chosen career path, be it finance, accounting, strategy or marketing, in areas as diverse as cosmetics to capital funds management.
