BU3660 Organisational Theory and Organisational Analysis

BU3660 offers an introduction to organisation theory through (a) study of the theory that underpins organisation design (b) applying organisation theories in analysis of case studies. The course focus will be on linking of theory and practice in organisational analysis.
On successful completion of this module students should be able to apply organisation theory in academic and organisational practice settings. Specifically, students will be able to:
- Critically analyse and assess the contributions of the major theories to organisational analysis;
- Analyse organisational cases and their own organisational experience;
- Draw conclusions from their analysis;
- Present arguments clearly and coherently.
Lectures &Tutorials/Contact Hours:
- A one-hour tutorial or seminar per week;
- And one two-hour lecture per week.

Group Case Analysis and Case Presentation - 60%
Term Test in Week 8 - 40%
Dates for Submission:
Group Case Presentations – Weeks 3-12
Group Case Analysis – Week 12, Final day of course.
Penalties for Late Submission:
Submission deadlines are strict: a project submitted 24 hours after the submission time will be graded out of 80%, and out of 50% within a week of submission. Assignments will not be accepted after this seven-day period.
Students unable to submit a term assignment must produce a medical certificate to the School of Business Studies office within three working days of the missed submission date.
Term Test in Week 8 - 40%.
