Biography

I am now retired (early!) after a career of nearly forty years in banking. I have previously worked and published on aspects of eighteenth-century Dublin, Sir John Gilbert (historian of Dublin) and the Church of Ireland.

Research

My research analyses the episcopacy of the Church of Ireland in the period following the Williamite wars. The dissertation will develop a prosopogrpahical analysis of the 39 bishops who served in Ireland during the reign of William and Mary. It will look at their activities on the ground across a range of issues such as their role in state formation (i.e. House of Lords, enactment of legislation and as privy councillors) and their activity at a local level in terms of church construction, appointment of clergy, and recovery of lost glebes and tithes.
