Online Master's in Managing Risk and System Change

Objectives

The Masters in Managing Risk & System Change offers a rigorous but practical focus on risk, change and system design in operations, manufacturing and services, with an innovative integrated approach to the role of people in such systems. It provides a core framework that has been tested in collaborative industrial research and practice for managing and developing people, the design and integration of new technologies, the management of risk and the implementation of change. It will deploy cutting-edge knowledge to foster advanced standards of professional practice and world class research in pursuit of the overall programme’s objectives.

 

Target

Current students on the course are working in a diverse range of industries which include; Finance, Healthcare, IT, Defence Forces, Emergency Services, Aviation and Pharmaceuticals. The course will be an excellent qualification to supplement the further education and career development of personnel who have responsibility for managing: risk, change; operations; quality; safety; human resources; planning; and system design.  Generic knowledge and skills in managing risk and change enhances key organisational competence and increases resilience of industrial and service systems.

Course Structure & Duration

The normal duration of the course will be 2 years part-time with a September intake each year. An innovative, practice-based and flexible delivery structure (interactive online learning environment), will focus on two key elements: (i) directed study (taught element) and (ii) a substantial programme of research (through dissertation & industrial portfolios targeting organisational strategic priorities).

Course Module Overview

This highly integrated programme is based on state-of-the-art collaborative research and development with industry. It will focus on contemporary theory and practice concerning human factors, socio-technical systems, management and organisation; it will develop and mentor skills for working with people; and it will foster effective methods for conducting industrial based research that has relevance and real-world impact. The programme comprises seven core modules and the research dissertation.
