The Trinity Long Room Hub’s ‘Behind the Headlines’ discussion series offers background analyses on current issues by experts drawing on the long-term perspectives of Arts & Humanities research. It aims to provide a forum that deepens understanding, combats simplification and creates space for informed and respectful public discourse.

The Trinity Long Room Hub Behind the Headlines series is supported by the John Pollard Foundation.

10 years of the Behind the Headlines discussion series

Since 2015, the Trinity Long Room Hub has been looking ‘Behind the Headlines’ to address moments of crisis, from accelerating terrorism and the Charlie Hebdo attacks to a global pandemic, war in Europe and the threat to international democracy. For a decade, the series has provided a unique space for researchers and members of the public, journalists, entrepreneurs, government representatives and NGOs, to join informed discussion of the facts, myths, prejudices and perceptions that lie behind the news.

Now, to mark the 10th anniversary of the Behind the Headlines series, we are bringing together two special panels, along with our Annual Humanities Horizons Lecture, to discuss issues at the heart of the current moment: the importance of our archives and official records to the accurate representation of who we are; and the ability of journalism itself to withstand increasing pressures on liberal democracy.
