A public lecture to mark the 225th anniversary of Maria Edgeworth’s Belinda given by James Chandler William B. Odgen Distinguished Service Professor, University of Chicago.
About the speaker:
James Chandler is Professor of English, Cinema and Media Studies and the College at the University of Chicago.
His research and teaching interests include the Romantic movement; the study of lyric poetry; the history of the novel; relations between politics and literature, history and criticism; the Scottish Enlightenment; modern Irish literature and culture; the sentimental mode; cinema studies; and the history of humanities disciplines. In 2023, Chandler was elected an honorary member of the Royal Irish Academy.
He is currently undertaking a three month Visiting Research Fellowship at the Trinity Long Room Hub in partnership with the School of English.
