Research Ethics and Integrity in Creative Practice Research
A roundtable with Dr Nicholas Johnson (Drama), Liam McKervey (Trinity Research) and Dr Andrew Dorman (TLRH) for the School of Creative Arts Research Forum.
This roundtable will explore the distinctive ethical challenges and opportunities that arise in creative arts research, and how these relate to established approaches to research ethics across academic disciplines. We will consider how ethical frameworks can support artistic experimentation, innovation and critical inquiry without becoming unnecessarily bureaucratic or restrictive. Through discussion of institutional cultures, researchers’ experiences and shared responsibilities, the roundtable will also examine whether creative arts researchers feel empowered to raise ethical concerns and challenge established practices. With this roundtable we aim to open a dialogue on how research ethics can accommodate the particularities of creative practice while upholding shared ethical principles, and what a more responsive, inclusive and enabling approach might look like in practice.
This session is open to all staff and students in Creative Arts, and is particularly facilitated for those with concerns about and interest in applying for Postgraduate, PhD or indeed Postdoctoral projects with a creative practice element. We strongly encourage all PhD students in the School of Creative Arts to attend and ask questions or contribute to the discussion.
This event is run in accordance with Trinity’s Dignity and Respect policy, and its commitment to nurturing a respectful and inclusive research culture.
