Oscar-nominated Sound Editor Douglas Murray: In Conversation
A collaboration between the TCD Film Dept. and Music Dept. In association with the School of Creative Arts Research Forum (SCARF).

In this unique Industry Talk event, the School of Creative Arts is delighted to welcome Oscar-nominated and Emmy-winning sound editor Douglas Murray to the Trinity Long Room Hub.
Throughout his incandescent career, Douglas Murray has contributed to the soundscapes for some of the most beloved and influential films and franchises of the 20th- and 21st-centuries: whether one thinks of his Oscar-nominated work on The Batman (2022), or his Golden Reel Award-winning contributions to War for the Planet of the Apes (2017) and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005), Murray’s sound editing and sound design career has spanned genres and generations of film and television production practices.
Of special significance are Murray’s collaborations with director David Lynch (1946–2025): an epoch-defining filmmaker notable for his idiosyncratic and highly influential handling of sound and music. Alongside his other credits, this event will see Murray discuss his contributions to the pilot for the Lynch’s genre-bending neo-noir TV series Twin Peaks (1990), as well as its subsequent prequel film Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me (1992): a challenging work of psychological horror notable for its sound design, reevaluated by some as Lynch’s magnum opus.
Drawing together TCD’s Film and Music departments, this special event presents a unique opportunity to explore the many remarkable credits and collaborations that have characterised Murray’s career, which falls at the very intersection of screen and sound practices.
Murray will be in conversation with Dr James Denis Mc Glynn, Teaching Fellow (TCD Film) and a scholar of screen music and sound.

This event is run in accordance with Trinity’s Dignity and Respect policy, and its commitment to nurturing a respectful and inclusive research culture.
