Friendship, Warmth, and Creating Music
Elizabeth Hillard in Conversation with Evangelia Rigaki, School of Creative Arts, organised by the Music Composition Centre seminar series.
Friendship, Warmth, and Creating Music celebrates the work of composer Gráinne Mulvey and her almost 20-year creative collaboration with soprano Elizabeth Hilliard. The event includes a screening of Mulvey’s Great Women, a powerful multimedia work honouring the remarkable Irish women who helped shape the country’s social and political landscape, including Countess Markievicz, Rosie Hackett, Mary Robinson and Mary McAleese.
Commissioned to mark the 50th anniversary of the Great Music in Irish Houses Festival, Great Women combines Hilliard’s live performance with recorded speech, vocal textures and extended techniques. The work was written for and dedicated to Hilliard, one of Ireland’s leading interpreters of contemporary vocal music.
An acclaimed soprano, broadcaster and collaborative artist, Elizabeth Hilliard has performed extensively across contemporary music, opera and multimedia performance. Her recent work includes collaborations with Jennifer Walshe, David Bremner and Stephen McNeff, as well as the RTÉ lyric fm series How the World Begins Again, featuring interviews with twenty women composers and sound artists.
This event is run in accordance with Trinity’s Dignity and Respect policy, and its commitment to nurturing a respectful and inclusive research culture.
