A half-day conference organised by Hibah Aburwein (Early Career Researcher, Trinity Long Room Hub) And the Department of Near and Middle Eastern Studies.

This focused half-day conference centres the lived experiences and perspectives of Irish Muslim women, exploring challenges of identity, belonging, and real inclusion. The programme includes 30-minute lectures, a roundtable discussion, and opportunities for networking.

Confirmed speakers and talks:

  • Dr James Carr, Professor of Sociology, University of Limerick, and expert on anti-Muslim racism “Anti-Muslim Racism in Ireland: Women’s Experiences”
  • Lorraine O’Connor, Founder of Muslim Sisters of Éire “Together We Rise: The Faith, Strength and Determination of Muslim Women in Ireland”
  • Hibah Aburwein, PhD candidate in Near and Middle Eastern Studies “Navigating Identities and Everyday Realities of Muslim Women in Ireland”
  • Roundtable Discussion, moderated by Dr. Tylor Brand (Professor of Near and Middle Eastern Studies)


A light lunch (sandwiches) will be provided, along with tea, coffee, and biscuits. The event will also be featured by the Long Room Hub and followed by a short publication.
