As we witness the contamination of our cultural life by propaganda, ‘alternative facts’, and disinformation, and as citizens become disorientated in their search for the ‘truth’, we ask: who controls the official records?
In this panel we ask leading archivists and historians to reflect on the current landscape. Panellists include Catriona Crowe (chair; former Head of Special Projects at the National Archives of Ireland); Susan McKay (author and Ireland’s Press Ombudsman); Ciaran O’Neill (TCD History); Carole Holohan (TCD History); Balázs Apor (TCD European Studies and Director of the Trinity Centre for Resistance Studies).

Please note that as this event will be recorded, late entry may not be permitted.

The Trinity Long Room Hub’s ‘Behind the Headlines’ discussion series offers background analyses on current issues by experts drawing on the long-term perspectives of Arts & Humanities research. It aims to provide a forum that deepens understanding, combats simplification and creates space for informed and respectful public discourse.
This panel is part of a symposium to mark the 10th anniversary of the Behind the Headlines series, which is supported by the John Pollard Foundation.
