Tacos in the Rain: A Symposium on Mexican Food & Film in Ireland
The Department of Hispanic Studies invites you to Tacos in the Rain, a symposium on Mexican food and film in Ireland, kindly funded by the Irish Research Council New Foundations and hosted by Trinity Longroom Hub Arts and Humanities Institute from 11.30 to 14.20 on April 8, 2024.
Presentations by our keynote speakers, Dr Melissa Hidalgo, California State University, Long Beach, and filmmaker Dr Ita Jansen, Edinburgh Napier University, will be followed by a discussion of contemporary Mexican food culture in Ireland.
Fulbright Scholar Dr Hidalgo's pioneering article 'Tacos on the Streets of Dublin' in L.A. Taco was the first to chart the emergence of Mexican food culture in Ireland. Dr Jansen is an indigenous Oaxaca-born filmmaker whose award-winning work focuses on Mixtec culture.
Her film Tiempo de Lluvia (Times of Rain) will be screened at 15.30 on April 8 at the Irish Film Institute, followed by a Q&A with the director. Tickets for the screening are available at www.ifi.ie. All welcome.
