Position: Research Assistant (Two positions)

The School of Nursing & Midwifery, Trinity College Dublin is seeking to recruit a research assistant to join an established team. The researcher will assist with a research project to evaluate an intervention to improve youth question-asking and provider education during paediatric diabetes visits. This position will appeal to anyone with an interest in healthcare research and who wishes to develop their research career and profile. The post will be based in the School of Nursing, Trinity College Dublin, 24 D’Olier St, Dublin 2 and between two hospital sites, CHI Tallaght Hospital and CHI Crumlin Hospital. The post holder will be part of our multidisciplinary team and will receive training, guidance and support.

Salary: The appointment will be made on the IUA Salary Scale, Level 1 at a point in line with Government Pay Policy, (pro-rata to 40%). The appointment will be made no higher than point 5.

This project is funded by the National Children’s Research Centre, Crumlin, Dublin.

Standard Duties and Responsibilities of the Post

We are looking for a reliable person who is self-motivated and can work within a multidisciplinary team. The person will work with the PI, Professor Imelda Coyne, the Co-PIs and research fellow on all aspects of the research.

The duties include:

1. To help with the recruitment of adolescents and parents from the diabetes clinics in Tallaght and/or Crumlin Hospital.

2. To administer the intervention (a video and question list) to adolescents, their parent and doctor at a diabetes clinic.

3. To assist with transcriptions and coding of audio-tapes of clinic discussions.

4. To assist the research fellow with some small daily tasks of the project.
