Data and Results

Waste generation has dropped consistently since a peak at 2017, which reflects the work being done by Estates and Facilities, Housekeeping and Sustainability offices, to actively reduce waste.  You can also see that Mixed Municipal Waste (MMW, the portion in blue) has decreased over the past three years, indicating an upturn on better recycling habits:

Trinity was seeing a reduction in hazardous waste for a few years (2016 - 2018) until 2019 when a clearcut of legacy (i.e. ancient/ left behind by researchers who moved on, etc.) chemicals occurred across the university. We expect to see a return to a decreasing volume of hazardous waste over the coming years:

While our current trajectory is heading in the right direction, further work and education needs to be undertaken to ensure that staff, students and visitors all make their best efforts to continue to reduce consumption, which is the sole cause of waste:

Note: Kg/FTE is kilograms of waste generated per full time equivalent staff, i.e. the number of staff members who work 40 hours per week at Trinity.
