Santry supports a diverse mix of landscaped and semi-natural habitats, providing valuable resources for pollinators, birds, and aquatic species. Flowering plants such as common poppy (Papaver rhoeas), knapweed (Centaurea cyanus), and wild carrot (Daucus carota) support insects including the honeybee (Apis mellifera) and buff-tailed bumblebee (Bombus terrestris).
Wetland features are particularly important, with species such as yellow water-lily (Nuphar lutea) present and attracting birds like grey heron (Ardea cinerea), mute swan (Cygnus olor), and mallard (Anas platyrhynchos). Birdlife also includes robin (Erithacus rubecula) and sparrowhawk (Accipiter nisus), indicating a functioning urban ecosystem.
We’ve also recorded amphibians on site like the one on the left with Biodiversity Officer Collie Ennis!
