Summer is a good time to reflect on and acknowledge the incredible teaching and support provided by a dedicated team of staff to our students in Trinity throughout the academic year. Two events were held recently in the Provost’s House to celebrate this: The Trinity Teaching Awards and a reception for Trinity Tutors.

The annual Trinity Teaching Awards, coordinated by the Centre for Academic Practice, Trinity Teaching & Learning celebrates staff who have made outstanding contributions to teaching in Trinity under two categories. The ‘Inspiring Educator Awards’, acknowledges staff who have gone above and beyond to inspire and motivate their students to learn. It also honours those who have encouraged their colleagues to enhance their own teaching practice. The ‘University Excellence in Teaching Awards’ recognise those who have made exceptional, long-lasting contributions to teaching and learning at Trinity which have impacted their students, colleagues and the university.

You can learn more about the awards and read about this year’s awardees on the Centre for Academic Practice website.

Another notable date in the summer calendar is the celebration for College Tutors, which takes place to acknowledge the dedication of staff who volunteer as Tutors, which is a role that they take on in addition to their academic responsibilities.

Trinity’s Tutorial System is the oldest student support service in the university, dating back to the 18th century. It involves assigning each student with a tutor who is then available to offer support and guidance throughout the student’s time in College.

There are almost 300 Tutors currently in the Tutorial System and the Provost’s reception serves as a way of honouring the important role that Tutors play in the lives of students in the university.
