The awards were presented by Tánaiste Simon Harris on 13 May during a ceremony in the Trinity Long Room Hub (TLRH) to former Tánaiste and MEP Frances Fitzgerald, and to European Movement Ireland, accepted by Board Chair, Julie Sinnamon.
At the event, Linda noted the remarkable foresightedness of European Movement Ireland being founded in 1954, almost two decades before Ireland joined the European Union, highlighting its longstanding commitment to these ideals.
The European Laureate Awards form part of a broader programme of events at Trinity marking Ireland’s forthcoming Presidency of the Council of the European Union. In a post on social media, Linda said, ”We will be advocating strongly [during the presidency] for the Framework Programme for Research and Innovation, a significant EU soft power which supports highly impactful research, along with core values such as academic freedom and open collaboration.”
The Trinity European Laureate Awards are organised by Prof. Patrick Geoghegan, TLRH Director, the TLRH team, and their partner Teneo.
