Linda visited Leinster House, home of Ireland’s national parliament, on Tuesday to speak at a gathering of ‘Bandáil’.
Bandáil, an old Irish word for a group or gathering of women, is the name for the Houses of the Oireachtas Service Women’s Staff Network. The network was established in March 2026 to create a space for staff to collaborate and contribute to building an inclusive organisational culture. It forms part of the Houses of the Oireachtas’ goal of creating a more inclusive, family-friendly, and development-focused workplace across all levels.*
As the first speaker to be invited to address the Network, Linda spoke of the need to ensure that gender bias and gender stereotypes are not embedded into the foundations of the advanced digital technologies which are shaping the new world today. “It’s worth recalling Lawrence Lessig’s aphorism ‘code is law’,” she said, “which he used in the context of the Internet, to convey the idea that social laws and norms are hardwired into digital platforms.”
