SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE FOR M.PHIL. IN CHRISTIAN THEOLOGY

M.Phil in Christian Theology: The Bridget Clancy Scholarship

The Loyola Institute, Trinity College Dublin, is pleased to announce a scholarship of €15,000 (this will cover fees and offer a stipend) for an M.Phil. in Christian Theology at the Loyola Institute, TCD, thanks to the generous support of the Sisters of St John of God.

• This scholarship is for women who are Irish nationals.
• Scholarship applicants must be eligible for acceptance onto the M.Phil. programme.
• Applicant must take up the scholarship in the academic year 2024/2025.
• The scholarship is aimed at women who will use this M.Phil. to contribute to Church and Society in Ireland.
• Recipients must reside in sufficient proximity to Trinity College Dublin as to be able to share fully and regularly in the life, work, and events of the Loyola Institute.

Both full-time and part-time applicants to the M.Phil. in Christian Theology will be eligible. In the case of students doing the M.Phil. over two years the award will be split with 50% paid in the first year and 50% in the second year (should a student not continue into the second year no award will be payable). Scholarship applications to be sent by email to loyola@tcd.ie with a subject line: The Bridget Clancy Scholarship Application.

The application must include:
1. A curriculum vita with two academic references
2. A maximum of 600 words setting out a) why you would like to do the M.Phil. in Christian Theology and b) how you will use this M.Phil. to make a contribution to Church and Society in Ireland.

Please note, the selection procedure may include interviews. These can take place over Skype/Zoom. Closing date for scholarship applications is 30th June 2024. The outcome of the process is expected to be announced by July 10th 2024.

In addition, one must separately submit an application for the M.Phil. in Christian Theology using the Central Trinity College Application System. Closing date for applications for this M.Phil. is 31st July 2024.

Loyola Trust Scholarship for Teachers

One Scholarship to the value of 9,000 euro.

This scholarship is thanks to the generous sponsorship of the Loyola Trust (funded by the Augustinians, Carmelites (O.Carm.), Columbans, Jesuits, Loreto Sisters, Marists, Oblates, Society of African Missions).

Closing date for scholarship applications is 30th June 2024. The outcome of the process is expected to be announced by July 10th 2024

In addition, one must separately submit an application for the M.Phil. in Christian Theology, using the central Trinity College application system. The closing date for applications is 31st July 2024.

Sisters Angèle-Marie Littlejohn and Bibiane Leclercq Scholarship (African Women)

The Loyola Institute, Trinity College Dublin, is pleased to announce a fees scholarship for an M.Phil. in Theology at the Loyola Institute, TCD, thanks to the generous support of the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Apostles.

This scholarship for the M.Phil. in Christian Theology is for a student interested in completing their research dissertation in the areas of mission theology, the theology of evangelisation, faith and culture, history of missionary endeavour.

Application Details

The scholarship is open to:

  • - Women who are nationals of an African country and are currently living in Africa.
  • - Members of religious orders are welcome. Please note this scholarship is not open to members of an international congregation.
  • - Women who will use this M.Phil. to contribute to Church and Society in Africa.
  • - Scholarship applicants must be eligible to be accepted onto the M.Phil. degree at Trinity College Dublin, i.e. applicants will normally hold a good honours degree (minimum 2.1) in theology or another cognisant discipline, from a recognized university.
  • - Applicant to take up the scholarship in the academic year 2024/25

    Closing date for applications is Thursday 11th April 2024.</li>

    Recipients must reside in sufficient proximity to Trinity College Dublin as to be able to share fully and regularly in the life, work, and events of the Loyola Institute.

    The scholarship application to include:

  • - Academic references (two)
  • - University transcript detailing your results. If you have any problems obtaining this for the closing date please let us know.
  • - A letter (maximum 600 words) setting out why you would like to do the M.Phil. in Christian Theology and how you will use this M.Phil to make a contribution to Church and Society in Africa.
  • - Note that the selection procedure may include interviews. These will take place via Zoom in the week beginning April 15th.
  • Please note: The scholarship will be dependent on the student getting a VISA to study in Ireland for the year.

    SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE FOR P.GRAD.CERT

    Loyola Trust Postgraduate Certificate Scholarship

    Thanks to the generous sponsorship of the Loyola Trust four (part-fee) Postgraduate Certificate scholarships of €1,000 each are available.

    The deadline for applications for the scholarship is July 16th, 2023. The outcome of the process is expected to be announced by the end of July 2023.

    In addition, one must separately submit an application for the PG.Cert. Christian Theology, using the central Trinity College application system. The closing date for applications is 31st July 2023.

    Ph.D. Scholarship in Catholic Theology

    A Ph.D. scholarship which will fully cover the university's fees for an EU Student, plus an annual award of €12,000 for maintenance, for a period of four years.

    Who can apply?

    The scholarship is open to new entrants to the full-time Ph.D. register who are resident in Ireland or within the European Union.

    This scholarship is available to Ph.D. projects supervised by a full-time permanent member of the academic staff of the Loyola Institute.

    Recipients must reside in sufficient proximity to Trinity College Dublin as to be able to share fully and regularly in the life, work, and events of the Loyola Institute.

    Application Process

    You are required to:

    • Submit an application for a full-time Ph.D. at the Loyola Institute at Trinity College using the central Trinity College application system.
    And Your application should include:

    • a brief letter of motivation.
    • a research proposal of up to 2000 words. This should include the main research question, key objectives, relevance, the proposed methodological approach, a brief description of the relevant literature, and the proposed timetable for the writing of your thesis. Please work with your proposed supervisor at the Loyola Institute in preparing this.

    Ph.D. Scholarship - Trinity College Dublin Doctoral Research Award

    Trinity College Dublin will make one doctoral research award available to a new full-time entrant to the structured PhD programme / research doctorate at the School of Religion, Theology, and Peace Studies starting in September 2023. The award attracts an associated stipend of €25,000 p.a. and covers tuition fees for the four years (full-time).

    The following criteria apply:

    • Open only to new entrants to the full-time research doctorate register (EU and nonEU).
    • The holders must engage in full-time research and must register for a research doctorate degree at Trinity College, the University of Dublin.
    • Continuation on the research register is dependent on evidence of satisfactory annual progress and successful completion of the confirmation process at 18 months after first registration.
    • Both the doctorate researcher and supervisor will agree to participate in the pilot rollout of Trinity’s Supervisor: Research Student Agreement in 2023-24.
    • Postgraduate Research Doctorate Awards cannot continue beyond a fourth year on the full-time research doctorate register and cannot be split across doctorate researchers.

    Application

    All new PhD students intending to start in September 2023 will be automatically considered to be in competition for the award and will receive an application form to be submitted by 19th May 2023. Please contact the Postgraduate Officer at srpostgrad@tcd.ie for further information.
