The Naughton Fellowship at Trinity College Dublin

Trinity College Dublin is proud to be a partner university in the prestigious Naughton Fellowship Programme, which enables outstanding University of Notre Dame undergraduates to pursue a STEM-focused master’s degree in Ireland. Notre Dame students awarded a Naughton Fellowship may choose from a wide range of taught master’s programmes at Trinity College Dublin across science, technology, engineering, and mathematics disciplines, benefiting from world-class faculty, cutting-edge facilities, and strong industry connections.

Fellowship Benefits

Successful Naughton Fellows studying at Trinity College Dublin receive:

  • A full tuition waiver for their chosen Trinity master’s programme

  • A $30,000 USD stipend to support living expenses during their studies in Ireland

This generous support allows students to focus fully on their academic and professional development while immersing themselves in Irish academic and cultural life.

Applying to Study at Trinity College Dublin

Applicants must complete two parallel applications:

  1. An official application to a Trinity College Dublin taught master’s programme

  2. The Naughton Fellowship application, which includes:

    • Personal and educational details

    • Preferred programme choice

    • A personal statement

    • One letter of recommendation (submitted by the referee by the deadline)

Receipt of completed applications will be acknowledged by email. Late applications cannot be accepted.

All Naughton Fellowship applications must be submitted by:

Tuesday, 27 January 2026 at 11:59 p.m. (Eastern Time)

Important: Trinity College Dublin programme deadlines may differ from the Naughton Fellowship deadline. Applicants are responsible for ensuring they meet both deadlines.


Selection Criteria

Naughton Fellows are selected by the Naughton Fellowship Committee, guided by the University of Notre Dame’s We Are All ND principles.

Applicants must be current University of Notre Dame students applying to an eligible STEM taught master’s programme at Trinity College Dublin (or another partner Irish university). Preference is given to programmes aligned with Notre Dame’s Strategic Framework initiatives.

While academic excellence is of primary importance, the committee also considers:

  • The applicant’s interest, ability, and potential in their chosen STEM field

  • Their capacity to successfully complete a rigorous master’s programme at Trinity

  • Clear articulation of how the degree will support a long-term STEM career

  • The applicant’s willingness and ability to serve as a cultural ambassador in Ireland
