Research Expertise

-Clinical restorative dentistry, dental materials and biomaterials. -Dental implant surfaces: Physical and chemical manipulation of metallic implant surfaces to enhance protein and bone cell interaction with the aim of enhancing speed and extent of bone formation at the bone-implant interface. -Bone and cell biology, and biochemistry: as it relates to healing following surgical placement of endosseous implants.

  • Title
Clinical and microscopic evaluation of periabutment soft tissue surrounding intraoral percutaneous commercially pure titanium implants, a pilot study.
    Summary
Intraoral skin grafts used to repair defects following ablative surgery for oral cancer which were used in association with dental implant abutments. The response of the peri-implant abutment tissue appeared as hyperplastic and inflamed. Biopsies of the intraoral skin grafts were prepared for histopathological analysis. X-ray diffraction analysis also completed to assess the presence of titanium particles in the tissue.

Definitive immediate restorations versus non-occluding provisional restorations in partially edentulous patients. A pragmatic multicenter randomized clinical trial.

  • Title
Load-displacement evalutaion of fiber-reinforced resin composite fixed partial denture materials.
    Summary
Adhesive bridge framework models designed with commercially available fibre-reinforced resin materials and bonded to bovine enamel were subjected to simulated occlusal loading. Stiffness values were compared and SEM images obtained to assess behaviour of the specimens under loading and determine the suitability of the materials for clinical use. Results revealed that these materials are not suitable for clinical use intended because of widespread evidence of microscopic failure, which would presumably lead to eventual macroscopic or clinical failure.
