Emergency Appeal for The Student Hardship Fund

Thank you to our Trinity community who have rallied together to support our students during this time of crisis. Trinity Development & Alumni on behalf of the Senior Tutor launched this appeal in response to the hardship that many students are experiencing as a direct result of the COVID-19 pandemic. You can read the letter from the Senior Tutor here.

Our students are in immediate need of practical and financial support. Several students have had to move out of their private rental lodgings. Without access to Campus resources some students are finding themselves without books, computers or internet access.

Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of our alumni the Student Hardship Fund is there to ensure every Trinity student has all the support they need in these difficult times. Support from alumni like you enables us to help students find and maintain safe accommodation, subsidise rent and provide emergency grants. Academic resources such as equipment and internet access are also now being provided to students experiencing hardship.

The response to this appeal has been incredible. We are expecting that large numbers of students may struggle into the next term and beyond.

The generosity of our Trinity community will enable us to respond to the immediate hardship that a number of students are experiencing but equally importantly, it will give us the capacity to respond over the coming months.

The Student Hardship Fund is operated by the Undergraduate Student Support Officer on behalf of the Financial Assistance Committee and provides financial support to students who are experiencing short or long-term financial difficulties while attending higher education. It is co-funded by the Irish Government and the European Social Fund as part of the ESF Programme for Employability, Inclusion and Learning 2014-2020.

Thanks also for the many kind messages of support, such as these from our alumni:

"Many thanks and please keep up the good work. If it weren’t for such efforts, I could not have continued my degree at Trinity and hence changing my life for the better."

“I wish I could donate more straight away but hopefully I will be able to make a further donation in the near future. Trinity was always very good to me so it’s the very least I can do to make a modest contribution.”

“Helping others is hugely empowering and, in turn, can make us feel happier and more fulfilled. It is our moral duty to help others in every possible way. Trinity is my home where I had the best times and memories.”

“To our wonderful students and professors at Trinity College, to those currently working on the front lines, we’ll get through this together.”
