On 18 August 2026, Professor Nathan Hill welcomed H.E. Mr MIYAGAWA Manabu, Ambassador of Japan to Ireland, and Ms NAKATA Keiko, First Secretary at the Embassy of Japan in Ireland, to Trinity College Dublin. Dr INOUE Keiko, Research Fellow and Japanese Studies Coordinator at Trinity, also joined the meeting.
The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views on strengthening academic and intellectual links between Trinity and Japan. Ambassador Miyagawa highlighted Japan’s participation in Horizon Europe and expressed an interest in further developing cooperation and intellectual exchange between Trinity and a wide range of stakeholders in Japan.
Looking ahead to 2027, which will mark the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Ireland, the meeting also explored opportunities to deepen academic and cultural exchange and build on the longstanding. TCAS greatly values its continued engagement with the Embassy of Japan in Ireland and looks forward to further strengthening collaboration in Japanese Studies, academic exchange, and wider intellectual and cultural engagement between Ireland and Japan.
