Lady Dufferin and Professor Ohlmeyer, Director of the Trinity Long Room Hub welcomed Trinity alumni and friends to celebrate the Arts and Humanities at a special showcase event in London in June 2017. The Trinity Long Room Hub is the institute for Arts and Humanities research at Trinity College Dublin comprising of a community of scholars drawn from over 20 disciplines as well as the College Library.

Student Engineers Win Kinsella Scholarships

Engineering students who have demonstrated outstanding potential were recently awarded 2016/17 Kinsella Scholarships. Three scholarships were awarded to students David Byrne, Amelia Feehan and Christopher Doyle. The Kinsella Scholarships were established in 2014 through a donation from the Chief Executive of Jones Engineering Group and Trinity alumnus, Eric Kinsella, and his wife Barbara. In 2014, Eric Kinsella also funded the state-of-the-art 24-hour student study space in the Ussher Library.

Deirdre Kelly Awarded CBE by HM Queen Elizabeth

Professor Deirdre Kelly has been honoured by Her Majesty the Queen with a CBE in the New Year’s Honours list. Professor Kelly set up our pioneering Liver Unit 26 years ago, which has helped transform rates for young people surviving transplant operations from 40% in 1989 to around 90% today.

Knighthood for NCVO chair Martyn Lewis

Martyn Lewis, B.A. (1967), chair of the National Council for Voluntary Organisations, has been awarded a knighthood in the New Year Honours list. The former broadcaster, who has been chair of the NCVO since 2010, was given the honour for services to the voluntary sector, particularly the hospice movement. Lewis, who founded the online advice and support charity YouthNet, is a vice president of Hospice UK and was awarded the CBE in 1997 for services to young people and the hospice movement. Martyn was in Trinity College in October 2015 where he moderated a showcase of Arts and Humanities.

New TCD Observatory in Birr
