Update from College Secretary and Director, College Health Service to students and staff

9 April 2021

Dear students and colleagues

Yesterday the important milestone of one million COVID-19 vaccines administered in the State was passed. The next few days and weeks are crucial in our efforts to curtail the pandemic. Plans for the roll out of the vaccination for the under-65s are expected to be communicated to GPs nationally shortly. There are brighter days ahead.

Mitigation measures for Semester 2 assessments

A number of measures have been put in place to support students in the upcoming assessments. The situation is still very challenging, even if the emergency crisis that arose in early January has eased substantially. To help students cope with these conditions, Council approved a series of measures such as deferrals, extensions, re-sits etc. as emailed to the College community earlier this week, please see here.

Hamilton and John Stearne Medical Libraries now open

From this week the Hamilton Library is open 1-5pm, Monday to Friday (Click and Collect from 1-3pm; no counter services) and the John Stearne Medical Library is open 12-4pm, Monday to Friday (no counter services). All other Library spaces remain on their current opening hours, with no counter service.

Updating your contact details

Keeping all of our students informed about the latest developments in relation to COVID-19 and Trinity’s response is a very important part of our work these days. Therefore, it is essential that we have the most up to date contact details for every student to ensure that we can reach students across a range of communication channels depending on the situation and the urgency.

With this in mind, we are asking all current students to update their contact details on their my.tcd.ie student portal, including mobile number in Ireland, current residential address and personal email address, so that should the need arise, we can reach you easily.  Please update your contact details every time they change.

Student supports

Remember that you can find support from your Tutor or Senior Tutor’s office at ST.Office@tcd.ie. Student Counselling is available at student-counselling@tcd.iewhile the Chaplains are available at chaplain@tcd.ie. International Students can contact the Global Room at tcdglobalroom@tcd.ie. All first year undergraduate students can access the Healthy Trinity Online Tool by searching for it within their module list on Blackboard. More information regarding student supports and services can be found here.

Please continue to take all preventative measures on campus and at home to stop the spread of the virus to keep one another safe. These include hand washing, cough etiquette, face coverings and physical distancing. Thank you.

Stay safe. Stay well. Bígí slán agus sábháilte.

Kind regards,

John Coman, Secretary to the College
