Postgraduate Courses

Political science has been an important part of the curriculum since 1855 and Trinity College has developed an international reputation for its research work on the European Union, comparative politics, comparative public opinion, international relations as well as democracy and development. The Department of Political Science's postgraduate programmes consist of both taught and research degrees which provide students with rigorous training as well as the opportunity to write and research an original thesis.

Postgraduate Applied Social Data Science (MSc/PG Diploma)

The Postgraduate Applied Social Data Science is a one-year, full-time programme which introduces students to fundamentals in quantitative social science research methods and state-of-the-art analytic approaches from the fields of statistics and machine learning. Graduates of the course will acquire a rich repertoire of social scientific research design skills - grounded in the scientific method - and data analytic methods that are widely sought after in the private, public, and non-profit sectors.The Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Social Data Science is a one year, full-time programme which cover 60 ECTS of taught modules. Students who successfully complete the Postgraduate Diploma will have an option to proceed with the MSc in Applied Social Data Science.

MSc in International Politics

This one-year full-time (two-year part-time) taught MSc programme is designed to provide well-qualified graduates, in political science and related disciplines, with the analytical and research skills required to undertake a PhD in Political Science and which have proven to be highly desirable to prospective public and private sector employers.

PhD in Political Science

Trinity's PhD in Political Science is a creative departure from the traditional PhD offered elsewhere in much of Europe and is designed to produce rigorously trained, widely-read and well-rounded political scientists, able to take their place in the forefront of the profession.
