Welcome to the Trinity Centre for Biodiversity Research

The Trinity College Centre for Biodiversity Research was launched in December 2008 by Sir David Attenborough. Based in the TCD School of Natural Sciences, the Centre focuses on understanding biodiversity in the context of a changing world in which sustainability is a central tenet. Biodiversity provides ecosystem services which ensure sustainable development. Research in the Centre is focused on interdisciplinary studies of environmental, technological, economic and social issues aimed at ensuring a sustainable future for the global society. Sir David welcomed TCD’s initiative and said that “the challenge of biodiversity loss is the greatest problem facing humanity”. He emphasised how essential the Centre is in developing future solutions.
