Microsoft is initiating this change due to the need to strengthen the security of the Microsoft 365 service amid ongoing global cyber security threats.

What does this mean?

After the 23rd November 2023, the method first offered to you if prompted to complete TSSI* as you log into your account will be the one Microsoft considers the most secure option.

*Please note that two-step sign-in is required only when accessing your computer account when not connected to the Trinity network, for example when working from home.

How does this impact me?

Example 1 – More than one method registered: If one of your registered methods is the Microsoft Authenticator app, Microsoft will always first prompt you to verify your identity with the app when you log into your account, as this is considered the most secure option.

If you are unable to complete TSSI with the Microsoft Authenticator app, click on the link “I can't use my Microsoft Authenticator app right now” available at the bottom of the “Approve sign in request” screen, which will bring you to a screen with your alternative methods of verifying your identity.

Example 2 – One method registered: If you have registered only one method for completing TSSI, such as your phone number for text message verification, then you will continue to receive the text message to complete TSSI as normal.

How do I check what TSSI methods I have registered?

It is important that your TSSI settings in Microsoft 365 are up to date. This includes removing any old TSSI configuration settings, for example for a phone no longer in use that had the Authenticator app configured, a phone that was lost, or a phone number no longer in use. Please see Reviewing / updating your TSSI Settings for steps to review your settings.
