The Universities Act 1997 obliges universities to promote equality, gender balance, and access by under-represented groups, stating that "the objects of a university shall include [...] to promote gender balance and equality of opportunity among students and employees of the university".
Irish Human Rights and Equality Act
The Irish Human Rights and Equality Act 2014 states that all public bodies such as Trinity have a duty to promote human rights and equality throughout their activities. This Public Sector Duty applies to the body's employees, service users (e.g. students) and everyone affected by their policies and plans.
