The Universities Act 1997 obliges universities to promote equality of opportunity, gender balance, access by under-represented groups, and "respect for the diversity of values, beliefs and traditions in Irish society."
Irish Human Rights and Equality Act
The Irish Human Rights and Equality Act 2014 states that public bodies such as Trinity have a duty to promote human rights and equality throughout all their activities. This Public Sector Duty applies to the body's employees, service users (e.g. students) and everyone affected by their policies and plans.
A Public Sector Duty working group has been established to drive implementation of the Duty across Trinity's core functions, and more information will be published online as the relevant plans and reports are developed. Feedback from staff, students or members of the public on Trinity's promotion of human rights and equality is always welcome at email@example.com.
