Overview

Course Overview

The programme addresses the growing need to finance business growth and development in a sustainable manner. Such is the pace of regulatory development in the area of sustainable finance and corporate reporting that leaders in financial services and business must ensure they are sufficiently skilled and informed to act as guardians of financial, as well environmental and social, capital. Sustainable finance is acknowledged as having a key role to play in delivering on the policy objectives under the European green deal and the EU’s international commitments on climate and sustainability objectives. Yet, a shortage of relevant specific skills even at executive level may impede the transition to a low-carbon, more resource-efficient and sustainable economy. This programme serves this demand consistent with the TBS strategy to promote and support business for good.

Is This Course For Me?

The programme targets mid-level executives and above from the private sector, public sector and third sector, who are looking to examine their organisations’ impact on society as well as the environment, and gain a firm understanding as to how they can impact real environment change from within their own organisations.

Career Opportunities

Mid to senior managers/ directors who need to be more literate in sustainable finance. Leaders looking to upskill in this area.

Course Structure

The programme has 4 x 5 ECTS taught modules and one 10 ECTS Action Learning Project, all of which will be core modules.

Course Content

  • Module 1- Leading Sustainable Finance: Participants are provided with the foundations necessary to implement a durable and purposeful sustainable finance strategy. The module develops participants’ awareness that mere regulatory compliance may be insufficient in creating value through a sustainable finance strategy. Accordingly, the module familiarises participants with the role of meaningful governance and ethical standards as an a priori requirement which should receive continual consideration in developing a sustainable finance strategy.

  • Module 2- Tailoring a Sustainable Finance Toolkit: expands the toolkit required to implement a sustainable finance strategy in a contemporary financial system. Participants will critically evaluate the growing range of financial products using quantitative and qualitative data in a manner that allows them to apply their own sustainability considerations.

  • Module 3- Implementing Sustainable Finance: Participants will apply various financial strategies in the context of current sustainable finance regulation whilst incorporating the governance, ethical and technological aids examined in the preceding modules.

  • Module 4- Reporting, Disclosure and Traceability in Sustainable Finance: introduces participants to the disclosure requirements facing companies and financial institutions, and the reporting frameworks best suited to communicating with stakeholders.

  • Module 5- 10 ECT action learning module aims to provide each participant with a map for implementation a sustainable finance strategy tailored to an organisation of their choosing.

Comprehensively, the course serves to provoke analysis and critique among participants with respect to their organisations’ strategic use of sustainable finance and to relate their findings to their organisations so as to introduce improvements and efficiencies internally while generating the external benefit of contributing to a more sustainable future for stakeholders.
