About the Project
Background
This is a collaborative research project involving the Children's Research Centre and Mayo Women's Support Services.
The research was carried out by the Children's Research Centre involving staff and clients of Mayo Women's Support Services. More information on the services provided by Mayo Women's Support Services can be found by visiting their website.
What does the research focus on?
The focus of the research project was on the impact of domestic violence on children using a developmental perspective. The purpose of carrying out the research was to explore the feasibility of developing an integrated service for children who have experienced or witnessed domestic violence in County Mayo.
What does the research involve?
A series of qualitiative interviews were carried out with key service providers from both the voluntary and statutory sectors during March and May of this year. Also in May a number of young people between the ages of eight and eighteen were met with and talked to about their experience of domestic violence. A number of mothers were also interviewed.
Final products of the research:
The final report was launched by Minister Brian Lenihan T.D. on Thursday 26th January in Trinity College and can be purchased from the Children's Research Centre by emailing crcentre@tcd.ie
