The Expansive Canvas: Large-Scale Form in the Music of 19th-Century Women Composers
A multi day conference organised by the Department of Music and the Royal Irish Academy of Music.
For the full programme and registration please see here.
This August, Dublin will resonate with the music of women composers. The Expansive Canvas brings together international performers and scholars to explore large-scale works from 1789 to 1922. At the heart of this conference and collaborative symposium is a series of five free public recitals—your chance to experience this extraordinary repertoire live. From majestic organ symphonies and virtuosic chamber sonatas to evocative songs and fantasies, each concert opens a window onto a richer, more inclusive musical past. Performed by outstanding international and Irish artists in two beautiful city venues, these programmes will inspire, surprise, and delight seasoned concertgoers and curious newcomers alike.
Alongside the free recitals, the registered conference programme (lectures, lecture-recitals, and roundtable discussions) will bring together leading voices in performance, scholarship, music education, and the arts and humanities to explore how this repertoire can reshape our understanding of music history.
