Air Quality Monitoring

Trinity Sustainability has kicked off a project to monitor air quality on campus in the form of a new Living Lab that will engage students, staff and the local community.

Overview

Building on the success of our Tobacco-Free Campus initiative, we aim to further enhance campus wellbeing by creating cleaner, healthier air for all members of our community. Prof John Gallagher, Jane Hackett and Claire Byrne will guide students in collecting and interpreting air quality data to support evidence-based sustainability practices on campus. As part of the project, the team is erecting solar-powered PurpleAir monitors and NOx test tubes to facilitate data collection and environmental sampling.

In an effort to engage the local community, Trinity Sustainability hopes to collaborate with schools in the area. These schools will be invited to visit the Living Lab, offering students a unique opportunity to learn about environmental science and sustainability in action. The findings of this research will be publicly available and form part of the Sustainable Transport Plan. Thank you to An Taisce’s Safe Routes to School and Globe Ireland Citizen Science teams for their valuable advice and guidance.
