On 8 April 2026, the Centre organised a public lecture on “Punk, Modernity and Identity – Ireland 1976-1990” by Dr Stan Erraught (School of Music, University of Leeds). The lecture was followed by a postgraduate workshop organised jointly with the MPhil in Identities and Cultures of Europe. The lecture and the workshop showed that punk and post-punk music had a significant impact on how Ireland, north and south, from the late 1970s to the early 1990s understood itself in the years characterised by the conflict north of the border and the quickening of the pace of economic and cultural modernisation in the Republic.
