Staff and students gathered in the Provost’s Garden this week to celebrate the 4th annual Pride Celebration, organised by the Trinity LGBT+ Staff Network, in collaboration with the Provost’s office.
This year’s celebration was themed, ‘Joy for our anniversaries, strength for our future,’ in honour of several anniversaries, including 10 years since the passing of the same-sex marriage referendum; 10 years since the passing of the Gender Recognition Act; and 10 years since the foundation of the Trinity LGBT+ Staff network, which was set up on the foot of these milestones by a volunteer group of staff.
On the evening, guests enjoyed music and refreshments, with speeches from the Provost; Co-Chairs of the Network, Evan Blake and Joel McKeever; and Trinity Director of Human Resources, Séamus McManus. The event concluded with an energetic performance from the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences Faculty Choir.
Watch this video from Joel McKeever, Trinity Equality Officer and Co-Chair of the LGBT+ Staff Network, who discusses the event, along with Trinity’s historical connections to the LGBTQIA+ movement.
