This week, Linda attended a session with ‘Crafty Creatures’, a knitting and crochet group hosted weekly in Trinity’s Unit18.

Unit18 is a dedicated space for civic and community engagement, located on the Trinity East campus on Pearse St. Since 2021 it has welcomed people of all ages and backgrounds to meet, learn and socialise.

The Crafty Creatures group, facilitated by Máire Jones (School of Computer Science and Statistics) and Irene Walsh (School of Linguistic, Speech, and Communication Sciences - retired), have been meeting since March 2024. Some of their regular attendees include local residents, Trinity students, and English language learners, whose skill levels range from beginner to experienced crafters. The group provides a space for members to meet new people, learn, and share skills.

The Crafty Creatures group gathered around a large table, working on their crochet projects. There is yarn, instruction sheets and crochet projects on the table. Linda is seated at the table to the far left of the frame.

In addition to working on their own projects, the Crafty Creatures have given back to the community by completing 34 blankets for dementia and stroke patients at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda; 63 baby hats for the hospital’s neonatal unit; and 21 adult hats and 11 scarves for people experiencing homelessness at Dublin Simon Community's Soup Run.
